It have basic functionalities for blogging and give you a free subdomain for your blog. You can freely run a blog without bothering monthly or annual payment.

But free have its own drawbacks. You can't connect custom domain on it. Also a "Powered by WordPress" text or ad will be shown on your blog. But the major one is that you can't monetize your blog.
